When we create new cannabis genetics, we cross two cultivars in an effort to enhance their unique desirable characteristics, like flavor or resin production. Out of each cross comes a number of different phenotypes that we test in our garden for productivity and terpene profile. Each phenotype offers a different expression of its parent genetics – one might product incredible rosin, while another boasts outrageously amplified terps. Some carry forward recessive traits from further back in each parents’ lineage. This wide range of possibilities and incredible diversity is what makes cannabis breeding so inspiring.
While we aim to select one outstanding pheno from each cross we breed, occasionally a hybrid yields two phenos that are exceptional enough to carry forward. You can experience two incredible phenos from one recent breeding project in this week’s Black Label Flower release, featuring two Rapture x Sticky Grapes phenos with distinctive profiles. Otoro is heavy on the gas, with spicy notes of fresh wasabi, while Heavy Jazz boasts a beautiful balance of complex grape and sour diesel.
